Often, we blame Love for making us do things we ought not to do. Other times, we complain bitterly about how Love has betrayed us. The most abused word on earth today is ‘love.’ Even infatuation is expressed as Love. Teenagers blame Love. Youths and aged blame love. Singles, especially ladies, are usually worried if their love genuinely loves them.
No wonder the conception that Love doesn’t exist.
A lady gets attracted to a guy who gets attracted, and boom, and they’re already on the bed. The lady fantasizes about how she’s going to make a beautiful home with him. Then, after a month, he calls to tell her he isn’t ready and interested in the relationship. Alas! The beautiful lady is emotionally down, mourning and lamenting. Some days later, she opines that Love is an illusion. But the irony of this is that she didn’t place her priority right. They are ignorant of what exactly love is all about.
How about I take you down memory lane on what real Love is?
Real Love is patient and kind. Love is never jealous or envious. Love is never boastful or proud. Love is never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its way. Love is not irritable or touchy. Love does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. Love is never glad about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, still expect the best of him, and still stand your ground in defending him.”
(I Corinthians 13:4-7.TLB).
That’s how the Bible describes Love.
When your partner loves you, s/he will be patient with you. When he loves you, he will be kind and gentle to you. He won’t be jealous or envious of your success or beauty or achievement when he loves you.
When there’s Love, there won’t be pride.
When you love him, you won’t be selfish in giving him. You will give her selflessly. All you desire is their best. All you want is to see them smile and happy. When she is selfish with you, check it out. It is not Love.
Love understands. Love cares. Love feels when you’re hurt. Love doesn’t leave you broken, shattered, and frustrated. Love doesn’t care just about his gain. Love is not parasitic. Love is considerate.
When all she wants is your wealth, then it’s not love. When all he wants is your body, then it’s not love. When he doesn’t care how happy or sad you are, it is not Love. When violating your values is his/her delight, then it isn’t Love because Love is considerate and has your interest at heart. When your tears do not move him, check it out, it is not Love.
If only we can get the true meaning of Love and practice it, the divorce rate will drastically reduce, and there will be fewer failed relationships.
At a point in my life, I didn’t understand what Love meant. I had unnecessary misunderstandings with my friends. But until I learned and understood Love, I could tolerate it. I could endure. I could forgive it easily. I could ignore it.
Once we can get the real concept of Love and ignore Love’s misconception, we will begin to experience happy relationships and marriages. Love isn’t a mere illusion.
Love exists. Love is beautiful. Love is sweet.
I pray that our eyes of understanding may be enlightened about Love, and we will begin to walk in Love.
Most importantly, there is no love without God.
